There are two ways to become a Chapter President. One of them is to start a High School Chapter of SWB, which would entail starting a club at the student's high school. The other way is to start a Community Chapter, which would require the student to partner with a local community organization (ex. youth associations, libraries, etc.). The Community Chapter membership will be open to all high schoolers of the Chapter President's city as opposed to the High School Chapter which is only to open to the students at that high school. Both these routes set up a sustainable pipeline to continue SWB even after the original creator has graduated. Ultimately, High School and Community Chapters are dedicated to organizing and hosting STEM Nights for K-6 students in and around the community in order to raise awareness and appreciation for STEM fields and careers.
In addition to the establishment of either a High School or a Community Chapter, the SWB team also looks for strong, dedicated, and passionate STEM leaders to take on the role of a Chapter President. All Prospective Chapter Presidents are required to go through 2-4 weeks of training and interviews during which a select number will be allowed to advance and become Chapter Presidents. The SWB team also highly emphasizes effective communication within all its members. For this reason, the Chapter President is required to respond to SWB within 48 hours and maintain consistent communication with their assigned mentor (Director of Communication).
Chapter Presidents can decide if they would like their STEM Night to be held virtually, or in-person in 2021 if possible. You will work with your Director of Communications to come up with the best possible plan for you and your community.
