Feed The Need (FTN) is a local summer program in the community of Novi that provides healthy lunches to children who rely on reduced lunch during the school year. FTN has served over 8,300 lunches this past summer, and been in Novi for 4 years. SWB partnered with the Novi High School Robotics Team, Frog Force, to start a sustainable STEM program. We have hosted 9 workshops in the past two years.
What We Did
The STEM workshops were an hour long and the children enjoyed participating in different science experiments such as making oobleck, flying paper airplanes, and creating constellations. The students here learned about different science concepts such as motion, space, weather, and much more! SWB has impacted over 60 kids at each of our workshops.
This year we partnered with the Novi Public Library. They brought 12 STEAM kits that each had a unique theme such as Spirograph, Fossils, Snap Circuits, and Insects.
The Impact
After this program, 76% of all of the people who completed surveys said they enjoyed the workshops and were more interested in STEM.
